On May 5, Lab27 will host a special meeting with Gianantonio Battistella, architect and photographer from Treviso, and one of the great interpreters of “Viaggio in Italia”. This is a unique opportunity to explore an extraordinary authorial journey that intersects the evolution of a consciousness in the representation of landscape and architecture in Italy. As always, there will be space for discussion with participants about the photographs, intentions, and projects. Admission is free; the event starts at 4:30 PM. At the same time, the exhibition “From Atget to Basilico: Archaeology in Seeing” is open.
Gianantonio Battistella has focused particularly on research and studies on the representation of architecture and landscape, as well as experimentation with photographic language. He was a lecturer at the University of Udine from 1998 to 2008 and collaborated with Professor Italo Zannier at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice in the History of Photography course from 1983 to 1998. He collaborated with the Department of Architectural History at I.U.A.V. on numerous studies of 19th-century Italian photography He served as Scientific Director of the Foto Archivio Storico della Provincia di Treviso (FAST) for the reorganization, archiving, and cataloging of historical and contemporary photographic materials (2003–2004). From 1991 to 2004, he collaborated with the Centro di Ricerca e Archiviazione della Fotografia in Spilimbergo. He has had a long-standing collaboration with the Historical Archive of the Procuratoria di San Marco in Venice. From 2004 to 2006, he worked with the Centro Internazionale Studi Architettura Andrea Palladio in Vicenza on the Carlo Scarpa Photographic Archive project.
