As part of the Sunday opening of the exhibition “Photography is Fashion”, Lab27 will host a meeting with printer Michele Mattiello on Sunday, May 18, at 5:00 PM. This will be an opportunity to explore the evolution of his work up to the present day, with a special focus on the use of color. Attendees will also have the chance to closely observe the archive of color prints in the photo library, which collects five years of exhibitions produced at Lab27 and dozens of prints by photographers from around the world. Finally, the event will include an original guided tour of the ongoing exhibition, approached from the perspective of printing. The meeting is free and open to anyone interested in discovering more about the world of fine art color printing—and perhaps one day seeing their own images framed.
Since 2020, Michele Mattiello has collaborated on the production of prints for Lab27 exhibitions. He began practicing in the darkroom in the 1980s and later transitioned to digital printing in the early 2000s. For many years, he developed professional skills and experience in the field while working with Hewlett-Packard. His passion for art and imagery, combined with a desire to refine print quality, led him to delve deeper into traditional techniques and improve his manual expertise. Black and white printing soon became a preferred field of study and dedication, serving as a pretext to explore the world of papers, pigments, and materials. What began as a personal pursuit has now become a mission for Michele Mattiello, which he shares with photography enthusiasts and professional photographers alike, engaging in dialogue and seeking the best solutions. His alchemical curiosity drives him to push printing beyond conventional paths and to pursue beauty in every image.
