Federica Andreoni will be at Lab27 on Friday, May 22 at 9:00 PM to present her research on the journeys undertaken by Roberto Burle Marx across Brazil between the 1950s and 1980s, focusing on the photographs and materials produced during these expeditions. Best known as one of the most influential landscape architects of the twentieth century, Burle Marx traveled extensively throughout Brazil to observe and study tropical flora in its natural habitats. During these journeys, he produced photographs, notes, drawings, and botanical collections that proved fundamental to the development of his vision of landscape.
The research analyzes a large body of largely unpublished materials preserved in archives and institutions across Brazil, seeking to understand the role of photography not only as a tool of documentation, but also as a means of observation, research, and knowledge production.

The event is organized within the framework of the project “A Treasure That Exists Only for Those Who Seek It: Roberto Burle Marx’s Expeditions in Brazil Through Photographs”, supported by Strategia Fotografia 2025, promoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture.
