On Thursday, May 4 at 9:00 pm, Lab27 will host, as part of its socially oriented programming and in conjunction with the exhibition Finché c’è vita, c’è distanza, a conversation with Davide Baldrati, photographer, educator, and co-director of the cultural association Antermoia. The event will be streamed live on Lab27’s YouTube channel.
The session aims to explore and understand the significance, scope, and potential of the educational and photographic workshops developed by the association over recent years. These annual programs are designed for children and young people, nurturing their energy, passions, knowledge, and skills through pedagogical paths rooted in hands-on experience and the transmission of community values. Activities range from retracing the trails and footsteps of the 19th-century photographer Franz Dantone, to documenting forests affected by the Vaia storm, to addressing the challenges posed by the pandemic, which disrupted the very nature of social coexistence.
Davide Baldrati (Ravenna, 1984) lives in Pozza di Fassa in the Trentino Dolomites. He is a photographer, educator, and, together with Michela Marangoni, director of the Antermoia association. He became passionate about photography during his studies in Architecture. In 2012, he served as an assistant to Guido Guidi in the workshop Un chilometro at SI_FEST in Savignano. From 2012 to 2016, he collaborated with Ravenna Teatro–Teatro delle Albe, photographing productions such as Amore e Anarchia, Slot Machine, and Il Volo, documenting outcomes from the non-school workshops, and curating the photographic content for two books (Amore e Anarchia and Racconti su un attore operaio. Luigi Dadina nel Teatro delle Albe, published by Titivillus Editore).
Teaching photography has been a central dimension of his practice. Since 2016, he has collaborated with the University of Bologna and the Faculty of Architecture “Aldo Rossi” in Cesena. He has worked with the Scola Ladina di Fassa and, for the past two years, has coordinated workshops for middle and high school students in Val di Fassa. He also teaches photography courses for adults twice a year, at both beginner and advanced levels.
Baldrati has participated in several public-commission projects related to territorial observation and analysis and has contributed to various publications, including: Di qua e di là dal fiume, IUAV (edited by Stefano Munarin and Andrea Pertoldeo); Architetture del lavoro e dell’economia. Il Novecento a Modena e la città contemporanea, Comune di Modena; and the monographic booklet Io sono Rummenigge, the outcome of a photographic campaign promoted by the Department of Culture of the Comune di Ravenna and the cultural association Osservatorio Fotografico.
