Lab27 is pleased to announce, as part of the collateral activities for the exhibition La montagna. Immagini e disincanto (The Mountain: Images and Disenchantment), the twelfth edition of INCONTRI DI FOTOGRAFIA, which will take place on Thursday, June 10 at 9:00 PM, streamed live on Lab27’s YouTube channel.
We will meet Gianluca d’Incà Levis, curator of Dolomiti Contemporanee, and photographer Giovanni Cecchinato. Through their experiences and project paths, we will explore the Dolomites and the Cadore region, reflecting on the future challenges of the mountain economy and on what art and imagery can do to tell its story or reactivate it.
With Giovanni Cecchinato, we embark on a five-year journey along the Alemagna, the historic route connecting Northern Europe to Venice, the gateway to the East. Following the SS51, we traverse the valleys of Cadore and the heart of the Dolomites. Along the way, we encounter a dense plurality of stories, events, landscapes, infrastructures, and ambitions. We will also explore his most recent editorial project, created with the contributions of geologist Emiliano Oddone, art critic Dionisio Gavagnin, and director of the Venice Academy Riccardo Caldura. The book acts as a magnifying glass on a territory, helping to understand the reasons and challenges the mountains present today.
Gianluca d’Incà Levis is the creator of the Dolomiti Contemporanee project (2011), which operates as a spatial and conceptual reconfigurator through contemporary art and culture. This includes initiatives such as the new Spazio di Casso, an experimental center for contemporary mountain culture. It acts as a territorial engine, producing innovative images through visual arts and cultural regeneration, in a context—the Dolomites UNESCO area—often portrayed uncritically and stereotypically. Another example is the Borca project, a complex initiative aimed at reflecting upon and activating the former Eni Village, promoting its cultural enhancement and repurposing some of its spaces.
