Lab27 is a cultural hub and humanistic crossroads, dedicated to fostering dialogue in a warm, open, and welcoming atmosphere. It’s a place to meet, study, learn, exhibit, and explore photography and the visual arts.
Since its invention, photography has evolved remarkably. With new technologies and ways of sharing images, its definition has broadened: beyond chasing the “decisive moment,” contemporary photography embraces a variety of practices, languages, creative paths, and forms of expression, responding to new needs and interests.
Lab27’s mission is to bring people together in this rich and complex landscape, breaking away from rigid conventions and simple assumptions. The center encourages the exchange of knowledge and different visual cultures while staying attentive to the pressing issues of our time.
Images, an ancient medium of cultural communication, have taken on an even more central role thanks to today’s digital tools. Reflecting on the power and impact of visual language—together with schools, students, and the wider community—is at the heart of Lab27’s work, through targeted projects as well as regular free seminars and activities.
The gallery is the vibrant heart of Lab27, where photography takes center stage. Our exhibitions tackle socially relevant issues, combining diverse perspectives and approaches brought by individual artists. Since 2020, Lab27 has hosted over 20 exhibitions featuring more than 70 artists from around the world.
The auditorium is a hub for dialogue and exchange—a space for meetings with authors, conversations, and in-depth discussions. Here, photography comes alive through voices, ideas, and shared perspectives. On Sundays, Lab27 hosts regular gatherings that offer fresh angles on the central themes of our exhibitions.
Lab27 houses a rich library of photobooks, perfect for anyone passionate about photographic publishing. Each book opens a window into diverse stories, formats, papers, and designs, offering endless ways to explore visual storytelling and deepen one’s understanding of photography.
Our photo archive preserves the history of Lab27’s exhibitions. Visitors can get close to the prints, rediscover the featured authors, and examine photographs and papers in detail—an opportunity to appreciate both the artistry and the materiality of photography.
Lab27 has an ethical mission: all proceeds from its activities are fully donated to cfponlus.org (tax-deductible) to support projects for children in Ukraine.
